On October 6, 2007, over 60 bikers rode into Rising Sun on their way to the Dreamcatcher Rally in Aberdeen. They stopped off at our own Boys & Girls Club Rising Sun Unit and interacted with our members. The Rising Sun Unit Director, Denise Thomas, and her husband participated in the ride. Steve Miller, Executive Director, acted as host with Denise Thomas and members of the Rising Sun unit. Thank you to Armstrong for providing beverages, and to all those involved.

In May 2007 members from the Rising Sun and North East units enjoyed an overnight camping trip. These members were invited because they completed the Passport to Manhood or the SMART Girls program. Members learned how to kayak. Trust and teamwork was also learned on a rope course. Way to go!

The Charlestown Unit celebrated Lights on Afterschool with a talent show. 33 members participated. There were many singers, several dancers, some cheerleaders, and one member even walked on his hands. Three members acted out a sword fight using tree branches, a rubber glove, and a pumpkin mask. The biggest talent of the day came from Ryleigh. She displayed her pogo stick talent to the tune of "Hit Me With Your Best Shot." She showed us how to pogo, then pogo with no hands, and even shoot hoops and jump rope while on the pogo stick.

The North East Unit held an open house in celebration of Lights on Afterschool. Parents donated hot dogs, chips, sodas, and fixin's. Approximately 50 members and friends attended, as well as parents, staff, and teachers from the elementary and middle schools. There was even a visit from the North East Fire Department. To help promote and celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, members wore pink shirts and ribbons to show their support. A current member from the Charlestown Unit recently had breast cancer affect his life when his mother was diagnosed and underwent a double mastectomy a mere 7 weeks ago. Both the mother and the member visited the club and talked about how the experience has affected their lives.
