  Who We Are. . .

Our History

The Boys and Girls Club of Cecil County Maryland, Inc. was chartered with the National Organization in December 1999, facing the challenge of bringing quality programs to youth in a rural community.

In June of 2000, after hiring staff and with the daily assistance of the members of AmeriCorps NCCC, the doors opened at three locations in the county: Rising Sun Middle School, Perryville Middle School, and Freeman Hall in Port Deposit.  On April 16, 2001 a unit opened in the Town of North East in the old town hall building in scenic North East Town Park.

In September 2002, we opened a location at the old town hall in Rising Sun.  In September 2003, the North East Unit moved to its current location at 114 E. Cecil Avenue and we located our administrative offices at 300 Cherry Street in North East Town Park.  In June of 2004 we opened a Club in Charlestown at 630 Water Street.

We currently have Club Units located in North East, Rising Sun, and Charlestown.  Boys and Girls Clubs are centered on the organizations five basic core areas: Character & Leadership Development, Career & Educational Development, Health & Life Skills, The Arts, and Sports, Fitness, & Recreation.

A great deal has been accomplished in a short period of time, and none would have been possible without the tireless efforts of our Board of Directors, the financial support provided by the entire community, and assistance from Boys and Girls Club of America and our surrounding neighbor Boys and Girls Clubs.  Thank you!

Four key characteristics define the essence of a Boys & Girls Club:

1. Dedicated Youth Facility
The Boys & Girls Club is a place -- an actual neighborhood-based building -- designed solely for youth programs and activities.

2. Open Daily
The Club is open every day, after school when kids have free time and need positive, productive outlets.

3. Professional Staff
Every Club has trained youth development professionals, providing positive role models and mentors. Volunteers also provide key supplementary support.

4. Available/Affordable to All Youth
Clubs reach out to kids who cannot afford, or may lack access to, other community programs. Dues are
low, just $25 per year.
